Prolonged, repeated movements of any part of the body can lead to repetitive strain injury (RSI). It most commonly affects muscles and tendons in the arm. The condition can leave the patient with pain, numbness or tingling in the affected area. There may also be loss of function, strength or movement.

In repetitive strain injury, muscles or tendons become irritated over time due to movements that repeatedly subject them to strain and do not allow them sufficient time to recover.

With the increased use of computers, poor posture and seating positions along with repetitive and long term use of the mouse, keyboard and text on the phone are common causes.

Acupuncture works by increasing circulation and moving the blood in the surrounding area. By increasing the blood flow, it can help reduce inflammation, stop the pain from getting worse and treat the underlying issues.

Acupuncture is generally combined with acupressure, cupping therapy or herbal medicine if it is necessary for the effective treatment of repetitive strain injury. It usually takes 3-5 sessions to see big changes.
